Monogenism and Polygenism: The Origin of Man and Original Sin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Join us on Saturday, January 31<\/strong> for our next Cooperator & Friends<\/em> Workshop, featuring a thought-provoking presentation by Leslie Tomory. This workshop will explore one of the most challenging questions at the intersection of faith and science: whether humanity descended from a single couple (monogenism) or multiple first parents (polygenism). Drawing on recent discoveries in paleo-archaeology and genetics, as well as Church teaching from Humani generis to the present, we will examine how scientific evidence relates to the doctrine of original sin and what it means for our understanding of human origins. This session offers a scholarly yet accessible examination of a topic that continues to engage theologians and scientists alike, providing intellectual tools to navigate this complex terrain with both faith and reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Leslie Tomory studied aerospace engineering before completing a PhD in the history of technology. He has written two books on the subject, and is now a consultant in the nonprofit sector.\n <\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

These workshops aim to deepen our understanding of Catholic doctrine. Unlike a retreat or recollection, which are intended to be more silent and reflective, a workshop offers an opportunity to engage with other men who are also striving to live their faith well in everyday life. The goal is to build intellectual confidence in understanding and defending the faith, with sessions designed to provide instruction in theology and philosophy applicable to ordinary life.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
